Helenium 'Red Jewel'

Common Name: Sneezeweed, Helen's Flower

One of the best native perennials for late season color. 'Red Jewel' is similar to 'Sahin's Early Flowerer' but offers a red and orange color palette rather than orange and gold. Some flowers may have yellow tipped petals. The tall flower stems are great for cutting for fresh bouquets.

This plant is well-suited to the middle or back of the flower border and combines well with purple foliage Sedums such as ‘Xenox’.

Native to the edges of woods, low meadows, and moist prairies, helenium will thrive in any average to rich, moist, well-drained soil and full sun. Dry soil will result in unsightly plants. Pinch plants back by half in late spring to encourage a more sturdy, compact habit. Deadhead to promote rebloom. Divide every 3-4 years to maintain vigor.
