Heliopsis helianthoides 'Summer Nights'

Common Name: False Sunflower

An exceptional cultivar of heliopsis that produces bright golden yellow, daisy-like flowers with a mahogany eye atop dark purple-red stems. The mature flowers are all-yellow, contrasting nicely against the green foliage with a purple-red tinge. This selection flowers for up to 8 weeks beginning in midsummer, especially if deadheaded.

'Summer Nights' has a tall, upright, clumping habit. The long flower stems are excellent for cutting. It was selected by Dale Hendricks of North Creek Nurseries and introduced in 2004 by Jelitto.

Heliopsis is an excellent tall perennial for the back of the flower border. It has a bushy, well-branched form and glossy, deep green, triangular leaves. It's a real workhorse in the garden!
