Hosta 'Half and Half'

Hosta 'Half and Half' Hosta

Common Name: Hosta

This hosta was discovered at Naylor Creek as a sport of ‘Lakeside Cupcake’. While they may look somewhat similar as mature plants, ‘Half and Half’ offers the advantage of instant color in spring.

The center color of ‘Lakeside Cupcake’ transitions from yellow to cream, but ‘Half and Half’ emerges right from the start with a pure white center and dark green margins. A third light green color rests between the center and margin. This beautiful variegation remains throughout the whole season, making it a lovely specimen from start to finish.

In mid to late summer, well-proportioned, white scapes carry near-white flowers above the mound of foliage.

Hostas are exceedingly popular perennials in today's gardens due to their versatility in the landscape. Their subtle colors, tall flower scapes, and broad, coarse leaves fill a niche in garden designs that few other plants can achieve. Their large leaves provide excellent coverage for dying bulb foliage. Hostas also grow well in city environments where the air may be polluted by car exhaust, etc.
